2023 Critical Access Hospital Series

About the Series

Through four specialized sessions, our 2023 Critical Access Hospital series will provide a deeper look into the current challenges and opportunities in rural healthcare. Designed specifically for critical access hospital professionals, we’ll cover key topics in the industry, including:

  • How to make rural healthcare jobs more appealing
  • What’s happening with rural health clinic caps and telehealth
  • Chargemaster and price transparency updates
  • Changes to bad debt and charity care reporting

Sessions are held live online over two months with access to on-demand recordings. Each session is $200 to attend, but we are offering discount pricing of $600 for all four sessions. Additionally, clients can attend all four sessions for $300 with a discount code.

Held annually for the last 14 years, our CAH webinar series continually receives high praise from attendees who claim that the information is relevant and a value-added use of time.

Each session is eligible for one continued education credit of Specialized Knowledge and the total series is worth four credits upon verification of participant attendance. To receive credit, each participant must be individually registered, logged into the webinar with their own email address and answering the polling questions.

Meet the Speakers

Rachel Pugliano, RHIT, CHC, CRCR, Director, Revenue Cycle | Eide Bailly
Rachel has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle. Rachel assists clients with the improvement of their revenue cycle functions as well as maintaining compliance with government regulations. Rachel's specific expertise is in the mid-cycle of the revenue cycle which would include coding, documentation improvement and charge capture. Rachel assesses the overall health and capabilities of an organization's revenue cycle functions as well as develops coding compliance and documentation improvement strategies for both hospitals and medical group practices. She provides internal coding compliance and charge capture assistance to improve coding and charge accuracy. 

Rochelle Dahmen, CSBI, Director, Revenue Cycle | Eide Bailly
Rochelle is the Revenue Cycle Manager for Eide Bailly. She has more than 18 years of health care experience, including more than three years at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and more than 15 years working in multiple health care organizations across the country. Specializing in revenue cycle and technology implementations, she has assisted health systems throughout the country with denials management, chargemaster assessments, compliance reviews, charge capture improvements, as well as electronic health record implementations, conversions and optimizations. Rochelle brings strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of the revenue cycle that allow her to quickly identify issues and create solutions to improve revenue cycle performance.

Traci Rabine, Director, Healthcare Consulting | Eide Bailly
Traci has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare leadership, construction management, hospital and clinic operations and revenue cycle.  She spent most of her career as a Vice President at a hospital and multi-specialty clinic.  She is passionate about helping organizations succeed through implementing and managing efficient processes, growth, and engaging and involving staff.

Jessica Aasen, Manager, Healthcare Consulting | Eide Bailly
Jessica has more than 17 years of healthcare experience in the clinic, long-term care, and assisted living setting as well as experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Further knowledge includes staff training for survey preparedness, policy and procedure development and implementation, staffing analysis and development, and clinical EHR implementation. Jessica stays current on regulations and changes within the healthcare industry through continuous research and involvement with industry associations, such as the American Nurses Association (ANA) and American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC). Jessica received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Minnesota State University Moorhead and is located in our Fargo, ND office.

Brian Bertsch, Principal, Healthcare Consulting | Eide Bailly
Brian has more than 26 years of experience helping critical access hospitals improve their financial stability. He specializes in assisting critical access hospitals on compliance with Medicare, Medicaid and other third-party reimbursement rules and regulations to achieve proper reimbursement for services performed. Brian also provides education to critical access hospital staff, board members and constituents on Medicare reimbursement for critical access hospitals. In addition to Brian’s client work, he also serves as the leader of the healthcare reimbursement practice for Eide Bailly.

Joy Krush, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CDIP, Senior Manager, Revenue Cycle | Eide Bailly
Joy has more than 30 years of experience in health care industry with an emphasis in coding, health information management, compliance, charge capture and documentation improvement. She is trained in ICD-10, CPT, and Clinical Documentation Integrity with understanding of MSDRGs and APC payment methodologies. Joy provides reviews of facilities chargemaster to evaluate overall accuracy of coding, revenue codes and line-item descriptions and assists with implementation of chargemaster recommendations, performs coding and documentation reviews for facility reimbursement and has experience with managing appeals to RAC and other payers for DRG and APC denials. Joy assists clients with day-to-day revenue cycle questions, including questions and processes relative to provision of telehealth services.

Jeremy Behrens, CPA, FHFMA, Partner | Eide Bailly
Since 2002, Jeremy has been a leader in managing and conducting healthcare and nonprofit audits, as well as audits in accordance with Uniform Guidance. He provides attestation and consulting services to healthcare clients in Nebraska and Iowa and is an experienced preparer of Medicare and Medicaid cost reports for critical access hospitals, prospective payment hospitals, federally qualified health centers, senior living facilities and behavioral health facilities. In addition, Jeremy has experience with employee benefit plan audits and providing 340B compliance services.

Jess Paisley, CPA, Partner | Eide Bailly
Jess helps our clients understand financial reporting processes to accurately present financial information. He also assists healthcare providers on reimbursement strategy and compliance. Michelle Gates, Manager, Revenue Cycle | Eide Bailly
Michelle Gates is an experienced leader in healthcare Revenue Cycle Operations and Management with a demonstrated history of working in the Healthcare Industry including Critical Access Hospitals, PPS Hospitals, Provider Based Clinics, Private Practice Clinics and Rural Health Clinics. She has worked in every revenue cycle position over the past 22 years. Last position on the hospital side, for 5 years, was Director of Revenue Cycle, and she was leading remotely for two Critical Access Hospitals and clinics, 5 states away. She was responsible for Patient Access, Billing, HIM/Coding, Patient Financial Counselors, Provider Credentialing and Payer Enrollment, Revenue Integrity and Cash Posting team for both CAH’s and the clinics.

For the past year and a half, she has had the opportunity to help healthcare organizations in the role of a Revenue Cycle Consulting Manager with Eide Bailly, performing Revenue Cycle Assessments, Chargemaster Reviews, Interim Revenue Cycle Manager, assisting clients with billing and sharing her knowledge by presenting at conferences.

She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Science (MS) in Organizational Leadership both from Marian University of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She will be graduating in May 2024 from Boise State University, earning a Master Population Health Management Systems degree.
