Joe works primarily with closely held businesses to help clients succeed by finding a tax-friendly path to their goals. In addition to client service, Joe teaches practitioner tax schools and writes tax articles. He is a principal contributor to the Eide Bailly Tax News and Views blog, providing daily updates on tax reform and other tax news. Joe is a Certified Public Accountant, as well as a member of the AICPA Tax Section and the Iowa Society of Public Accountants.
Clients value Joe's knowledge. He's been a tax practitioner since 1984 so he knows numbers and how to reach the best solution for clients. Joe's extensive writing and teaching experience make him an effective communicator and advisor.
An Illinoisan by birth and an Iowan by choice, Joe is married and has two sons. His children were not beguiled by the glamor of public accounting—one is a professional musician in Chicago, and the other plans to study things other than accounting in college. Joe's been a blogger since before it was cool, authoring a tax update blog for 17 years. He enjoys travel, the outdoors, chess, music and history. He also loves northern Minnesota—don't worry, Joe, we won't tell Iowa.
He has taught statewide tax schools for Iowa practitioners in connection with the ISU Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation and the Institute of Management Accountants.
He has authored pieces for the Tax Adviser, The Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants newsletter, the Des Moines Register and the Des Moines Business Record.
