Sales Tax Reform and Software Solutions

Course Descriptions
Game Changer: Sales Tax Reform
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
What you think you know about sales tax, may have changed with the recent Supreme Court decision in Wayfair. States are now permitted to collect sales tax from out-of-state sellers with no physical presence in their state including remote sellers, online retailers, phone order retailers and inbound (foreign) companies. Many states are announcing new economic nexus standards which expand their reach to taxing out-of-state sellers. Staying informed as we navigate state sales tax reform is more important than ever.

In collaboration with Avalara, this session will cover what you need to know regarding various state and local tax rules and discuss how the recent SCOTUS ruling will require businesses with customers outside their home states to immediately review their sales tax collection practices.

Learning Objectives:

-Discuss Nexus
-Review important recent tax law changes, including the Wayfair Supreme Court ruling
-Outline how aggressive state expansions of sales tax collection requirements create filing requirements and risks for businesses working across state lines
-Define nexus and discuss its impacts
-Explore Avalara Sales Tax Software Solutions

Software Solutions for Your Business: QuickBooks Integration with Avalara Demonstration
12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
State and local tax rules are continuously changing – making it difficult for businesses to stay in compliance and up-to-date on changes affecting their tax liabilities and responsibilities. Additionally, the recent Wayfair ruling from the Supreme Court will impact many out-of-state sellers including internet retailers. Knowing when to collect and remit sales tax, along with the importance of tracking valuable information and remaining compliant are a few steps to take towards reducing audit risk. Selecting the proper accounting and business management software for management of data regarding your human resources, your customers, and your sales, is an important business decision.

With real-time rate calculation and automatic return filing, Avalara's Tax application is the go-to software solution for businesses of all types and size and works with the software you already use – from QuickBooks to your ecommerce platform.

 Learning Objectives:

-Review Nexus
-Discuss NetSuite and ERP Solutions
-Discuss how QuickBooks integrates with Avalara
