Have you earned money from renting out your home? If so, you might owe sales tax.
Many homeowners have used trendy online home sharing companies like Airbnb, VRBO and HomeAway that allow homeowners to rent their homes to others when they are away, or offer the opportunity to swap residences with another family for a short period of time.
Airbnb currently collects sales tax on sharing transactions in a variety of states. But, effective January 1, 2017, Airbnb is now required to report sales tax to the Arizona Department of Revenue. This means that sales tax will now need to be collected by Arizona participants at the homeowner level then remitted to Airbnb. Click here to review a list of states collecting sales tax from Airbnb.
