Raised on a farm in Lyons, Nebraska, Ron ‘Gus’ Gustafson was a standout basketball player in high school in spite of having lost his right arm and shoulder in a tragic childhood farm accident. After a knee injury ended his collegiate basketball career, he was devastated. But, once again, his faith and courage sustained him and he redirected his energies, building outstanding academic and business careers. Gus is Founder and President of Ron Gustafson – My Story, located in Omaha, Nebraska. He and his wife, Julie, have three children: Isaac, Josiah and Hannah.

WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD OF 340B?

Session Overview  
The 340B Program has been subject to significant changes and challenges by drug manufacturers who are apparently no longer playing by the rules. We will review recent legislative and various court decisions related to the 340B Program as well as other discussions happening in Washington D. C. We will also discuss the past few years of HRSA audits to identify common findings to assist covered entities in making necessary changes now, before HRSA arrives. In order to assist covered entities in documenting their internal audits of the 340B Program, we will discuss best practices for those audits as well as documenting the results and resolutions of issues, which is key if HRSA were to conduct an audit or if a covered entity needs to report a material breach.

  • Summarize recent legislative and various court decisions related to the 340B Program, specifically as it relates to the actions of several drug manufacturers either discontinuing providing 340B drugs to contract pharmacies or requesting additional information from covered entities.

Greg Polzin became the CFO of the Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics system in 2012. Prior to this, in 2007 he was the Chief Financial Officer at Iowa Specialty Hospital – Belmond. Mr. Polzin earned his bachelor degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa and worked as a certified public accountant prior to working in private industry. Before becoming the CFO of Iowa Specialty Hospital – Belmond he worked in public accounting with a focus on audit and tax work for various industries. Abbey Stangl, Chief Financial Officer, CPA, MBA, FHMA | Cass Health
Abbey joined Cass Health in March 2015 as the Chief Financial Officer. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Finance (both with honors) from Iowa State University, and she earned a master’s degree in business administration from University of Phoenix. She started her career in public accounting and earned her CPA designation in 2006. After changing industries to healthcare, she now has more than 16 years of experience in healthcare administration as a CFO.

Abbey is actively involved with the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) at state, regional, and national levels and is a past president of the Iowa Chapter. She holds distinction as a Fellow of HFMA and has earned the Founder’s Medal of Honor Award.
